 "not quite there yet" 2010-08-24
By Ralph G. Marantino (New Jersey USA)
I bought this item so to enable me to use my new Les Paul Studio guitar at my acoustic guitar class.I did not expect a true "acoustic" sound and did not get one but it will do.The overdrive mode was very noisy as explained by all other reviewers so that was no surprise. It was worth the money to be able to carry the guitar outside to practice without an amp and power cord.

 "Junk" 2010-07-04
By C. Nader (MOUNT STERLING, OHIO, US)
Don't buy this. THe idea for it is good and it is heavy duty and all but the sound just is awful. just buy a smokey mini amp (sounds like an expensive tube amp) for the same price and just use a short cable. Don't make my mistake.

 "Ok for the price" 2010-05-17
By Steele (Tampa Bay, FL USA)
This is a good amp for beginners. For the price the sound is ok but not clean, my son says. It does, however, enable him to practice without a bulky amp.

"Improved over earlier model. But RF noise is everywhere!" 2010-05-09
By William D. Fusfield
This thing is fun to play with, as are its many competitors. It has a bit more volume on the new separate "distorted" setting than the old model had on its one clean-to-distorted option, Unfortunately the distorted setting doesn't sound very appealing IMHO, and the clean setting doesn't have quite enough volume, even full out, to be useful playing lead over say four or five acoustic players. The earlier model also had two screws in its bottom that scratched the top of my Wendler 7-string pretty bad, So if you are going to use this with a guitar having an arch-top style output jack under the pick guard, BE WARNED. [I solved the problem -- albeit only after the damage was done -- by putting on some stick-on felt pads over the two screws.] Another problem with the unit is that it picks up any RF [and maybe also EMF?] that may be in the room where you are playing, or even nearby. That makes it buzz and hum etc. So it needs to be used, primarily only for private practicing, and away from all power outlets, computers, and almost all light fixtures, to do what it's supposed to do. It would also be nice if the manufacturer would add five or six different sampled sound options, since the clean is awfully quiet, and the distorted fatiguing and rather obnoxious after a few minutes of playing. The price is good, and you will find yourself using it, but what the guitar world really needs is something that is similar to this but that has more "sampled" tonal options, especially some good vintage tube amp emulations!, and at least one output option that sounds as good as the old Pignoses of years long past, even if without the full Pignose volume. That would easily be worth twice what this unit cost, and get still more use, and add to the total happiness in this troubled world, far more than these "one or two [lousy] trick ponies" do! I haven't tried the $10 pricier and smaller competitors from Vox that get good reviews. Maybe they would be better sounding. But they are so small, it's hard to believe they could deliver much volume or tone at all. Anyone heard em both?
